Faces of Buddha

Buddha is said to have many faces, 26 is the usual count. The faces of Buddha are more like aspects of Buddha. We display these aspects in the form of small figurines to bring that energy into our homes and into our lives. At Moonrise Books, we carry seven of the 26 faces of Buddha. These little, stoneware figurines come from Hong Kong. When we run out it can take months to get more. They stand about two inches tall and are perfect for your desk, altar or bedside table. Let me introduce them to you.

Warrior Buddha is the aspect of the soul that knows its worth. When you have self esteem you know your worth and you defend and protect yourself. The Warrior Buddha stands with his sword resting on his arm. He is in a defensive posture, a point of alertness.

Traveling Buddha is the aspect of the heart that wants to see the world and all it’s mysteries. To travel is to find one’s self. The Traveling Buddha looks for opportunity to travel and meet new adventures knowing he is protected and safe.

Gambling Buddha is the Buddha who understands risk and reward. The Chinese love games of chance. So there is a Buddha to take to bingo or to help you with the lottery.

Power Buddha brings an understanding of the nature of power into your consciousness. Power is the ability to live the life you are meant to live. Power is to have the resources and knowledge available to you. Power is to know your gifts and take responsibility for using them.

Sex Buddha has the dragon curled around the Buddha’s feet. This symbolized the power of creation and life with passion. This Buddha not only attracts good sex but a enthusiasm for life itself.

Long Life Buddha is the Buddha of health. When we are not well everything in life is a struggle. Health and energy are vital for accomplishing our goals. The Long Life Buddha is an old Buddha, leaning on a carved staff. He has the confidence and wisdom that comes with age.

And finally there is the Resting Buddha. This is a fast paced world with many demands and even more opportunities. Sometimes we just need a break. This is the Buddha who sits down by the river and thinks of nothing but the wonders of nature and the blessings of being part of it all.

Come in and see our seven faces of Buddha. At $5 each you can collect them all. Once they are gone there will be no more until February 1998 as the come on a very slow boat from China.
